What does “respite” mean?
For caregivers, it may mean a break from the everyday routine, time to oneself, or a chance to recharge – all the while knowing that the care recipient’s needs are still being met. For care recipients, respite may mean having education and training opportunities, access to leisure activities, or practical help around the house.
Recognizing the need to examine the respite needs of people living with schizophrenia and their caregivers, the Schizophrenia Society of Canada (SSC) undertook a national survey of its members.
