Is anyone aware of medications for schizophrenia that are more effective for smokers?
Looks like Clozapine and Olanzapine/Zyprexa are the two main meds that have different dosing for smokers.
Lots of people with schizophrenia and other SMI smoke and take meds. It looks like most typical and atypical APs work for smokers, but dose might need to increase in above two.
Of course smoking is very harmful. I read your previous post; you care very much and have helped someone. Smoking is even allowed for patients in some psychiatric hospitals. Nicotine might actually help with cognitive effects of sz and there are scientists trying to see if nicotine (though not tobacco) can become a prescription medication.
