And did you think “stupid moon, stupid moon theory”? That was my mantra yesterday. @Vallpen
Is there a way to ask the sheriff for an officer and EMT response to a mental health crisis? Some departments have specially trained staff for that. It sounds like he’s a threat to himself and others and that needs to be addressed sooner than later. They can’t just sit around and wait for a tragedy. That’s so stupid. I would call the non-emergency line and talk with someone there about managing the situation. We’ve had to do that in the past.
Here’s a resource that may help with this issue: Calling 911 and Talking with Police | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness
You might be in a larger population area than I am. @Author_Charity_Marie
I did speak to our sheriff’s dept mental health officer today (our entire county has the one guy). I left him a message on his voicemail yesterday. When he called he apologized that he had been on vacation for the last 12 days. He was really nice. He was surprised that the officer who came to our home on December 4th, hadn’t updated him. He concurred with the December 4th deputy that a visit to Texana - our totally useless community mental health source- would only have resulted in Jeb being held in a padded cell, given food and water and eventually Texana showing up for their questions. Answer the questions correctly or incorrectly - depending upon the results you require- and Jeb BEING DRIVEN HOME by the officer. Believe me, Jeb would know all the “correct” answers. Would probably admit to something like being frustrated or perhaps it was a ‘misunderstanding’. The Texana person would probably sympathize with Jeb and send the officer with money to buy Jeb food on the way home. For which Jeb would give a sweet smile of gratitude, especially if the person was female.
While you would think the plan wouldn’t be to sit around and wait for a tragedy, well, the reality being that is Plan A for the unmedicated, too sick to realize they have a brain disease people in many parts of the USA.
Hope, Can you file a missing persons on him? Vallpen, I’m so sorry.
You will see where I responded to you that he has surfaced. @Mom2
I am wondering, if all these people handling skills he had before and seemed to have lost and now has recovered - are a good thing. His dad and I think he is using them to scam people as he did his new psychiatrist these past 6 months.
Its like his brain disease is accessing his cognition for its own purposes. Is that an odd thought? His delusions about his dad continue to grow, so its not like he’s getting better.
My son already knows and asks for the doctors that used to prescribe Benzos. I’m not sure many do now. He even wanted to go to another hospital where he could smoke. I don’t think they will transfer. I’ll likely hear from his social worker tomorrow.
Maybe I am looking at it the wrong way. Maybe I should see it as Jeb learning to handle his brain disease.
I have the go-ahead from the doctor to increase his meds, but not sure if my son will cooperate.
Saw the moon last night and thought of you. Did not get a chance to check thread until tonight. I am soooo sorry your theory is proving correct. Stay safe.
@hope I’m glad you are in touch with him and taking care of his cats per his request.
If he does stay in the other city, is there any chance there is better care and response there?
I’m sure you are right Hope. That is a better way to look at it. He did go to a place of safety and that is good. I’m praying.
My first response after we viewed the camera feed of him taking the camera down after watching him yell at us from his porch - after he had hit our garage door with his hand, was to say to my husband, there is something to this perigee moon thing - its real. Well, you can imagine husband’s expression.
The rest of the day it was the mantra, stupid moon, stupid moon theory. Thanks thereisalwayshope.
I did check into the resources available there - after suggesting to his brother that he perhaps should suggest Jeb stay in a hotel instead of with him. His brother felt that since he was usually okay at his place it would be already. He did thank me for his county’s mental health mobile crisis response team number - YES they have such a thing up there - what a relief.
The mental health officer said that the reason I can’t approach the judge (judge’s office referred me back to mental health officer for warrant) and have to go through MHO with any sort of warrant is that with such a small county, the judge may have to hear the case later and so can’t take part ahead of time.
Mental Health Officer said that the throwing of the rock (Dec 4) would have been enough for a 48 hour hold IF Texana agreed after examining him that he was a danger to himself or others. He said, they hold them in a padded cell by themselves until Texana shows up. The MHO would drive him to the hospital specified by Texana if they agreed a 48 hour hold was necessary. After 48 hours, Jeb would be offered the “option” of staying an additional two weeks.
A thrown rock, no matter how large, that doesn’t hit an inside the house target, is not enough for the 90 day commitment addressed on the treatment advocacy website.
After the 48 hours, if Jeb declined to stay, they would bring him back here where he lives.
We would have one angry Jeb on our hands.
So after many months of relative peace and only quirky behavior there was a lunar eclipse last month and a downward spiral in behavior. Anger, a personality shift, increased paranoia, and holes in the walls. I am going with your theory that moon has an effect.
Dayum! I know how disheartening that feels!
I am thoroughly convinced at this point. The only connection I can figure out is that the brain itself is 73% water and the moon affects tides around the world.
As you said in January, I am so sorry this one is right because we can’t do anything about the moon.
