Brand name vs generic

Is there any difference in taking a brand name vs a generic for antipsychotics? Do the generic brands work as well? Anyone have experience or insight to share.

The advice I was given was that if the generics don’t work, then take the brand name. I take generic just fine.

My experience is there’s very little difference for name brand drugs other than significant drain on your pocketbook .

Most insurance companies penalize you if you insist on name brand or something outside of the preferred drug lists, but you have the option of choice if you don’t mind paying for it. The only differences I’ve noticed are slightly different packaging and pill shapes, and drastically lower cost or “free” medication once the ACA protections were enacted.
