Thanks for sharing, tough to read, saving our children is impossible sometimes. I hope she can figure out a way to get the world informed on psychosis. If Mike’s university friends who saw him daily would have been able to recognize his issues, maybe it would have made a difference. I don’t know.
It’s so sad. Leaves me wondering how a therapist could not at least suspect psychosis. That’s like being a meteorologist and not knowing what a tornado looks like–just specializing in lighter aspects like wind, rain, dew points, etc. I think society is getting good on the whole in describing and labeling some of the mental health issues of our times like depression and OCD, but there seems to be an unwillingness to learn the basics of psychosis. This young woman with her paranoid delusions exhibited some major symptoms in that regard. Maybe she didn’t share them enough with people who could have made a difference.
I’ve been in therapy before and I think the world of that profession overall, so my comments have to be taken with that in mind. I also don’t mean to say depression is a lesser problem, as it can be debilitating.
Just some thoughts. Thank you for sharing this.
