Look for evidence
Parents took this from her trailer this morning when she was sleeping. She is a heavy user. All day every day for about a year. She went off of gabapentin recently (tapered) because she felt weed help deal with her pain and ptsd. Its possible this psychosis could be a weed induced psychosis due to her heavy usage. But of course unless we can get her to seek treatment, we will never know.
Nice stash, She right handed? check left arm, there is some discoloration… I personally would give some of that back to her, she is going to go high order over this…
SZ is a genetic disorder
nope
yall will probably need to just let this play out for a few days and see what happens, if she tries harm herself or others call the cops, then she might get help… do not get her busted for pot, bad move
This sounds almost exactly like my daughter when she first became ill with SZ. In 5 years she never agreed to get help, she was in and out of the mental hospital and she never gained insight. Symptoms became worse as well, like running around naked to prove to God that she had faith.
What I was able to convince her to do is to take supplements. They ranged from sarcosine and omega 3 ands a really great vitamin b complex. These work great together and helped her become normal. The website profrontal has great sarcosine and so does the website brainvitaminz. She was doing so great that she quit the supplements saying she was cured. That is when I reached out to a homeopathic dr that specializes in SZ. His recommendations were exactly right. I pt those in her food and water for 3 months and now she lives on her own and is working. It is a miracle in a way that I never expected. You can find the doctor I used on LinkedIn and see that he is highly regarded and teaches at a university and many other doctors seek him out for advice. Dr.K.S.Gopi, in India. He will treat through your connection.
There are a few doctors in the usa that will treat but they require the patient to acknowledge they need help and an in person visit. That would never happen for me and my daughter. She still doesn’t think she ever had a problem.
At first self medicating with weed helped my son - later - whether the illness increased intensity or whether he just way overdid his self medicating It just increased his paranoia severely.
Does he still smoke? Would you mind going into more detail?
My son is unmedicated, he says he doesn’t smoke anymore. He didn’t smoke weed until his symptoms started up in college. His form of schizophrenia is severely paranoid, he can be highly functional for very short periods of time- as I have learned on this forum, its not unusual for those who suffer from the paranoid version to be more functional. Because of this, and his not living with us, it took us a long time to figure out what was going on. When he was younger his periods of functionality were longer, as he progressed into his late twenties and early thirties, those periods of functionality grew shorter and shorter. He was finally diagnosed at age 31.
My son has anosognosia - he is unaware he is sick. We brought him home and forbade the use of weed on our property. We used Dr Amador’s LEAP to get him diagnosed. It took nearly a year of using the LEAP communicating before we were able to bribe him to see a doctor. He agreed to see a doctor for one year in exchange for a vacation to a state that had legalized marijuana.
Thank you for your response. That is a very good suggestion. I have the book “I’m not sick, I don’t need help!” where they reference LEAP. I think maybe that could be one way to get her to seek help is not only using LEAP but negotiating like what you did to get her to seek treatment or at least get evaluated. Not sure though. She is still in her trailer and I guess another concern is how do we know if she eats or drinks? She does have food and water in there but not leaving her trailer. Did you have to deal with your son and his health as to whether he will eat or not?
My son has unusual food habits that seem to rotate. Sometimes he is gaining weight, other times he will be losing weight.
Some of the people here on the forum have dealt with their family member refusing to eat. If your sister’s health becomes at risk, you can also have her admitted to the hospital for help based on self care that is endangering her life.
Sorry for the delay in my responses, I’ve been out of pocket quite a bit.
Weed induced psychosis is very much a thing. People who smoke strong weed daily are seven times more likely to have a psychotic episode.
Thank you. She was taken today involuntarily with use of police when she became combative towards my mother. We are relieved in a sense but still distressed over how she had to get evaluated. Officers on scene was linking her behavior to a meth addict but I’m not convinced. She does smoke very potent marijuana daily and even after she was taken, my parents went into her trailer and found more marijuana that they overlooked when they went in the first time. Hopefully they will get her treatment and assess her for an illness rather than assuming she’s tweaked out.
Please don’t feel badly that she was taken involuntarily. Try to be kind to yourself, it IS the greatest good as she was combative. She will be safe, and will hopefully get evaluated and medicated. This may be just the beginning of trying to get her onto treatment.
The ride begins, one sad part is the docs will probably not reveal anything unless she signs, if this is drug related that’s damn good news, anything other than SZ or similar is good…
I got a mental health warrant for my son at hospital but she would have to say she is going to hurt herself or others. That is the rule in Louisiana anyway. I heard of AOT where you go through court to make her take medecine. You could call NAMI to get advice.
I hope your mom is okay. Try to say the right things to each other and try to spend part of each day not thinking about or doing things for your family member. Its a healthy habit that needs to be started as soon as possible. Hopefully she signs the release and you can get real information from the hospital.
Hello Sykedhorse,
I’m no expert, but thought I’d give my two cents of advice.
- Neither confirm or deny the delusions, just say “uh-huh” and change topic back to reality.
- Food and hydration is key. In hospital she will get proper nutrition, alone in her trailer, she will not. I recommend family take turns dropping off a hot meal to her each evening, along with a bottle of water. Have it packaged in tupperware so she just has to flip the lid, and start eating with a fork. Cut the meat into bite sized pieces. Make sure that there are lots of vegetables (broccoli, carrots, etc.) which is more important than starch (potato/rice). If possible, time it for around the same each evening (i.e. 7pm or whatever).
The evening meal will help with cognition (nutrition fuels our brains) plus help with sleep (staying up all night only makes the psychosis worse). Continue feeding her this way indefinitely. That is the single most important thing you can do for her, period. She can eat whatever the family member is making for themselves that evening. Think of it as one extra plate. Eventually, hopefully she will reciprocate by at least washing the tupperware and giving it back to you to refill.
The food will help her mental and physical state, plus it also shows that she is cared for and loved. That’s very powerful, and will get through to her, no matter what else is controlling her thoughts at the moment.
It’s frustrating to feel helpless in this situation, and that is one very constructive thing you can do.
Good luck! Be well.
I had talk to my daughters case worker and I had her put on a involuntary mental institution visit. She had tried to end her life several times .She was sexually assaulted at one point when the abuser told her he was Jesus Christ Her boyfriend who knew where she was that day tried to get help for her.The police where called and she fooled them they though she was normal at the time far from it .Her girlfriend at the time had schziophernia to he was controlling both of them in my daughters girlfriend apartment. My daughter ended up in a canatonic state her girlfriend phoned the ambulance after she was treated for a few weeks in hospital she tried to press charges but they would not charge him.Even though she was under a community treatment order we still couldn’t help her, this time.Naturallycured I believe is right but it doesnot hurt to find out all you can about this treatment orderHave you any group meetings in your area with case workers from mental Health They sure help me the meetings are free in Canada these workers are very experience to help you and every week we had group classes to teach you about everything you need to learn. They where there for me when I needed someone to talk to .Look for the schziophernia Society in your area or mental health I could of not handle what I did without them
I’m glad your daughter is under community care now, but hopefully she will fully recover. Consider Clozapine if no other drug combo works, that is like the gold standard of antipsychotics. I hear lots of success with that.
I am indebted to community care for being a place of last resort for me, when I had completely fell off the rocker.
stopping Gabapentin cold turkey can also cause psychosis…
