In my state Iowa you have to have two people one family one friend. Go to court office and ask for committal paperwork. They will explain it to you. We were fearful of her harming herself only because she was not taking care of herself. She was currently in the hospital but they don’t have to be. Anyways after you get the paperwork filled out and it gets submitted to a judge then if he decides they will issue a warrant for them. In my daughters case she had already been in the hospital emergency 5x in 2 months. Any info on being seen at emergency or being put in for 72 hrs or anything you have make sure to put in the paper you fill out for the judge. A committal is very serious though and it takes their rights away. And they have not choice in following orders or another warrant will be issued and it can go on for many years.
