What you mean is psychotherapy, speaking with a counselor, social worker or psychologist. The best results come from a combination of psychotherapy and medication. I have both.
Now what you really want to learn up on is styles of psychotherapy- there are a fair number of approaches.
I second mortimermouse. From what I have seem with my husband, meds plus therapy have helped. So far, the meds have helped reduce the delusions and put them in a “past” timeframe, while the therapy helps deal with the emotions generated by the delusions, if that makes sense.
Talk therapy doesn’t make the delusions go away, or cure schizophrenia BUT - talk therapy helps deal with the anguish and stress of someone “following you” or putting “drugs in your food”. Basically if the delusions will never be fully gone, it helps you make peace with them.
I think talk therapy is great! I would recommend talk therapy to someone with psychosis or schizophrenia because I think it could help over-time, to have a relationship with a therapist. I remember conversations with my therapist that really helped me when I was having paranoia, and eventually I overcame the paranoia. Sometimes I have blanks in my memory about what happened when I was psychotic. Talk therapy helped me sort things out and when I look back I can see how it helped me to have people who cared about my recovery and were invested in it but it took awhile for me to get better.
It also helps to talk to someone to get inspired towards writing, reading, and communicating goals
