I just finished “The Heartland: Finding and Losing Schizophrenia” by Nathan Filer. I really liked it a lot. The author used to work as a nurse on a psych ward in England. He covers the topic from many angles, always with compassion and a little humor. He talks about what it’s like to have it, what it’s like to have an affected loved one, causes symptoms, theories, you name it.
This same author also has a novel featuring a young man with schizophrenia:
