New Study: Risk of Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Among Siblings of Children With Autism

For families with one child with Autism, there seems to be higher risk of psychiatric disorders. The reverse is also likely true - if one child has schizophrenia, there is higher risk of other psychiatric disorders in other children.

CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE:

Psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders cluster among siblings of probands with ASD. For etiologic research, these findings provide further evidence that several psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders have common risk factors.
