Newbie to this World - Son 15 years diagnosed with Psychosis

I feel the same. Why is he not getting disability yet? I got right away.
Keep trying. I bought an RV thinking I would live in small inexpensive area
and train son. He does know how to do the propane and things now, but
it is still a lonely life as he doesnt reach out to anyone, and Group
home’s could be better. Does anyone want to get together and see
how we could get some funding and get a group home for our kids?
I guess they are out there but hard to find. Seek and you will find.
I met a couple who lived in CA and they found one in Maryland, and
took son there, and son liked it.
I would like a place where he can go to a living area, and play games,
video games eat occasionally with others, and have someone who
keeps up on their medication taking, health, and doctors visit, or
get to doctors, and make sure he cleans up after himself.

Hi, so sorry. This sounds normal, they isolate and loose all friends.
So sad. I cried a lot. My son got at 15 1/2 and is now 26. Hospitalized from school, as thinking computers talking, and cats jumping out.
He wouldnt take meds, and laughed like crazy too, and it almost seems like they are seeing spirits, he hears things and thinks often he has telepathy when driving by people in cars. Some don’t notice the oddness.
We got SSI right away, you can get in USA when under 18. If you have
anything apply right away. Our first Doctor who was well versed tried
to have him on Clozapine, or something like that, that I have read a lot
of people on here said it seems to work well for their child.
At that time my son wouldnt take. He has now only taken, relatively
consistantly fro 2 years. However he went off when he thought he was
fine, and ended up suicidal, and homicidal to me and back in hospital.
Then he tried to escape, while they were waiting to get to mental hospital, and he threw water bottle at nurse, who decided to press charges, so 1
year in court, had to go to jail for 3 weeks, then, got it reduced to misdemeanour. Then that doctor at hospital who was medicating hime
well couldnt see him, so he went to new doctor ( I did all paperwork)
but first day had to drop him off, as I had work conflict. Well. The
Doctors never read the paperwork! So it’s been 3 to 4 months of hell
as she only put him on 10 mg. of PRozac. When I went there frantic,
she pulled up paperwork, and said " oh, he only said he was depressed".
So , you do have to be an advocate, and be there in there lives even
when older, even when all your friends tell you you are babying him and
to let him do all by himself and kick him out of house.
I have not yet. However this last spiral, he now ended up in jail from
“robbery” threatening me to give him money, or harm me", so we
are waiting for Mental health court, where they say they can force them
to get treatments… He has become addicted to online gambling, and gaming and buying “gold” for video game components. He won’t do
anything else, and was a very active sport oriented kid. He refused to
wake board, boogie board, surf, ski, skate board, like he used to and
was paranoid.
My mother was bipolar and Lithium helped her. I have asked for Lithium,
clozapine, and also inveega susteena, but so far, we have only got ability, olanzapine, oxcarbazene, Which did keep him calm, and not suicidal or
homicidal.
I bought an rv and moved to rv park to try to teach son to live so he could
afford to live on own. As everyone is giving him a hard time about living
with his mom at 26. I hear a lot of stories where normal kids are still
living with parents. So now he has a stigma about it. Dont know what
he will do when Im gone, I have instructed his brother and sister to help
either get care taker and have him live in camper in their yard or get to
a good group home. We will see The doctors told me, the more he can
stay on medication and have less psychotic episodes, the better, as they
say the brain stretches or something, and doesnt go back to normal
Also they say stay away from Marijuana. My son was smoking that
thinking it was only thing making him happy. Recently he bought some
CBD vape thing at a vape shop, and said that this stuff was really potent.
I think they are spiking it with stuff. Someone here in Idaho told me
that her uncle got some heroin, fentanyl in a vape and became an addict.
So be careful of those vape stores. The police said it is a way they are
hiding selling it, and getting people addicted to it.
We got a cat and dog as support animals, and it sometimes is the only
way I know he is ok, and has humanity when he is cuddling and taking
care of the animals in a loving way. He worries about them all the time and pampers them.
Take care and I hope you work together and hope your son can get
more normalized. There were times my son was more normalized
on medication. He did even get a little job, and they really liked him
there, but then he stopped medication and things fell apart again.

There is also some new brain wave therapy they’re talking about.
Wasn’t covered by our insurance, and I have to check into.

My son is 49 he is getting his injection today. He still blames me for putting him in the hospital and most of the time doesn’t talk to me he just doesn’t answer when I ask him something. This is really upsetting but as long as he takes the injection I’ll be good with it.
I have to except that he will never be the man he once was.

I know they can never be normal again
And it is always trial and error.
we had to drop clozapine one year because the Pharmacy refused to give meds unless we have a blood draw every week. my son was last hospitlaized last on August/2023 and he is now taking Invega shot 156mg and Lithium 900mg and olanzapine pills 2x daily 20mg each but he is still talking to himself and he spent 4 to 5 hours daily at Star Bucks spending money on Coffee and Cigarettes.
he is not willing to change his meds or taking anit-Anxiety…
what a life. I feel I am stuck with him. I cannot travel or get away. I have not been back to my Old country for 10 years because of my son’s illness…
Keep praying about it…

Sad! My son just got on Inveega, and she is weaning him off olanzapine.
He is addicted to gambling and cigarettes, and begs for money to gamble
It is sometimes more than I can bear, as I feel bad, and sad and have
given up most of my life activities, and give him too much money, so I
also look crazy and am considering not even having a bank account or
debit…like I cant be an adult either…He was on abilify…and also hospitalized in august and jailed for 3 months…they said that would be best way to make him comply with things, but nothing to comply with
happened and it was not good.

is he talking to himself often nd hearing voice?
is he aggressive with you? what dose if Invega he is on?
if he is taking 156mg Invega shot, you can also keep him on olanzapine. olanzapine 20mg can help
is he taking any Lithium or Depokate as mood stabilizer?
I also give my son 1 or 2 tables of Melatonin of 5mg to help him to sleep…

you need to put a limit to how much he can spend a day. I am allowing $30 to $40 daily expense for coffee and Cigarettes which is still high but I can manage it. of course I have another budget for food.
is he open to try Clozapine and getting a weekly blood draw for 6 months?
Clozapine is know to be the last resort medicine in US but it is used a lot in other parts of the world without the CLOZAPINE REMS of taking weekly blood draw.
Clozapine is effective and can get rid of voice hearings and Hallucination and get the mind clear.
Some people are leading close to normal life with Clozapine.
Warning: if someone starts taking Clozapine then decided to stop taking Clozapine Cold turkey he may experience suicidal thoughts and other side effects…
it is best to taper off any medicine to a lower dose gradually before stopping completely,
we are dealing with a very Challenging Illness…
May God help us all through this… I heard it gets better with Age but I know it is too long to wait so we keep trying…
Hung in there…and keep hope for better tomorrow.

Thanks for responding . It is 6 MG of inveega pretty low and 10 of olanzapine.

6Mg in pill form is a good dose. I see that he is not taking a monthly shot. you may consider increasing Olanzapine to 15mg and add a mood stabilizer.
