Pretty much the same!

Feeling cautiously optimistic. My son spent 8 nights in the hospital and came home yesterday. He seems to have clearer thinking, no visible motor tics, and is communicating more. He wouldnât agree to an injectable but has willingly taken his medicine twice daily. He is participating in a program based on the RAISE model. I look forward to participating in my first family support group this week. Our journey is just beginning but I am feeling happy to be on this side of the road right now.
He is so lucky to have you. I wish my mother had cared as much and been as brave when I started becoming symptomatic. Major kudos to you.
Thank you for the kind words Turnip. I am not a perfect parent though (none of us are). I have regrets and I am sure your mother is no different. We all do the best we can with what we know. Best wishes to you!
Been there. I cried and it was like a bad dream. But he did get help and on the right medications. He was great for a year afterwards. But then stopped taking his meds. So here we go again. The best advice is meds and counseling afterward. You may have to call again. Just make sure you follow your instincts. You know your child and can tell when they are not right. I learned the hard way about denying in my mind that this is a lifelong issue. I will not go into details or be a downer for you, just remember that lots of people stay on meds and do fantastic. Take care and God bless.
Thank you for your reply. My son is struggling now after the doctor increased his dosage of Risperdal. I thought he was doing great on the dose he came out of the hospital on. However, she increased the dose and heâs so restless, canât sleep, drowsy, moodyâŚI hate seeing him like this. Hoping that he evens out soon so he doesnât resist the medication which is helping his thought process. Poor guy hasnât gone to work the last few days because he is too restless to sit at a desk but doesnât know what to do with himself at home:(
Tell the Dr about his symptoms. My son would have to walk, could not sit still but then he was better. Sometimes the restlessness is a symptom of the illness also. Just talk to the Dr. My son also did not do the therapy afterward and he should have. It helps them deal with issues they do not want to talk about with you.
I called her today and she agreed to reduce the dosage and slowly increase him with lower increases. He seems better today, thankfully. Fortunately my son is accepting the therapy, peer group support and other aspects of the program heâs in. I look forward to seeing him be able to laugh and smile again. Itâs been awhile since I have seen that.
