Son with Schizophrenia phone disconnected 1 month

#1

My son is Ex- Military and suffers from schizophrenia, ptsd, severe delusions. 4 months court ordered stay in Gateway Hospital Los Angeles. Phone disconnected 4 weeks. Called Court appointed Attorney, Social worker Veterans administration at Gateway Hospital no information given, Hippa Act is hard to break without a court order. Should I file missing person?

#2

I’d say yes… go for it… It’s free… and that might also help break the HIPPA…

they can’t even tell you if your son is around?

My Mom HATES the Hippa laws too…

#3

No, I have called the Cottage at Gateway 4-5 times a day hoping someone would help. Lips sealed. I am so scared his delusions are really scary. My son spent 4 months in County Jail and I advocated for help, our system has failed us.

#4

I’m sorry they can’t even answer a simple question like is he even there and safe.

You’re right… the system has failed us. The caregivers and the patients.

I had to sign a lot of paperwork when I was stable so if I loose it again… my parents get let in on what’s going on.

Good luck and missing persons investigator or a lawyer might be able to get through barriers that you can’t.

It is horribly frustrating.

Would he refuse to sign disclosure agreements for you?

It is easier sometimes to start out with, ‘I know you can’t tell me anything, but if my son were there, how could I contact him?’ There is usually a hall phone that can be called.

Also - ‘If my son is there, please ask him to sign a disclosure form for me - I am really worried.’

Keep calling. You will either wear them down or get somebody who is willing to talk with you. They can talk in hypotheticals without saying anything specifically about your son.

#6

Call his friends and network through them to find him, his phone being off could mean a lot of things, I recently didn’t pay my bill and I was cut off from the world for like 6 weeks.

#7

If he is on a psych ward, he probably can’t have his phone.

#8

I ignorantly skimmed through it,she lost her son on a psych ward?
You will find your son eventually mam.

#9

You know what ? Hollywood is exactly that, you can’t just ‘lose’ somebody.

#10

I think she is not sure where he is, that he is SUPPOSED to be at the hospital, but can’t get verification.

#11

Ooohh I see he kinda lost his way on the way to treatment? Ive done that a few times.

Ill pray for him .

#12

He did not lose his way in treatment he is court ordered and is drug tested. Lock Down!

My son is stubborn and will not acknowledge his illness, he thinks he is on a reality television show, to him it is real. I have been dealing with this for 2 years. I do not argue anymore. I have been working with My Healios to learn how to be a Caregiver. My son gets lost in his delusions and who knows where his missions take him. You see he is also trained in Combat Control in the Air Force he is Red Beret. My son has a very high IQ. Getting his signature is impossible. If he has ran he will go underground. I am trying to manipulate those who answer the phone at Gateway Cottage, sooner or later I will succeed. You see, I do not give up, my son is my world. This has really taken a toll on me, I imagine the worse. I can not go into all I have uncovered in the last few years , but Hollywood has taken my son’s soul. My son is at the Cottage, the Veteran’s Administration is caring for him, he can come and go as long as he checks in within 24 hours. Gateway is the main Hospital, the Cottage is an Annex. I spoke to a Detective Carlton to file a missing person report. I was told to give his Social worker until Monday, The Detective will call the social worker personally. I am in for a long weekend. I was told there is a high volume of missing people in the Hollywood area due to escorting/auditions. Pray for us, I will need it , I do not sleep anymore , I am too hyper -vigilant.

Yep. The Hippa laws horrible at the moment. i was always able to get some info on my son at different times.
Your son is going to be in for 4 months-and in a week or two, he may call you himself. If hey are giving him medication, he should be stable enough to call you.
You can always go to the hospital yourself and talk, scream , yell, or cry your way in.

I am in another state, I am country girl, I would be like a fish out if water in Los Angeles.

#16

If you collapse under the weight of believing that there is really anything you can do (considering the legal double-binds), who would he have IF he needs a family member?

I will =very= strongly recommend the following to provide you with truly functional means of psychological support and self-protective boundary setting.

Thank you,I have sent my information, now to find a meeting in my area.

#18

I understand the stress. My son has at times been out of contact and in parts unknown. But you have to take care of yourself.

#19

I know this is stressful. I would file a missing person since it has been long since you have not heard anything about him. I also got a court order for my son one month ago and because of HIPAA, I am not able to get information about him but I can give them information about him. but the social worker gave me a phone to be able to talk to him. When I called and ask for him, he would answer but hungs up the phone many times when he hears my voice and some other times, he would curses at me. but at Least I know he is alive. His social worker told me that he is taking his medicine and I feel better. he is has been in the Hospital for almost 4 weeks and may be will be there for another 3 weeks. Now, it is Xmas and I feel depressed because this is the first Xmas with him in the Hospital. I trust that the Lord will take care of him. I pray that you hear something good about your son soon.
