Worry for the Future

They are keeping my son longer and didn’t think he was well enough. Thank goodness! I asked if there would be medicine changes and the doctor was to call today.

I told the MH Specialist that called today that I would like to get a full record of medicines they tried and how long while he was in there. I want to put together a document that can be given to his Pdoc and serve to better inform my son and any future hospitalizations what medicines worked and didn’t work.

I do “progress Notes” and he was released today.

Do you share those with him? I’ve been thinking a lot about bringing my son into this by asking him a series of questions and letting him respond. I have no idea if this will work but I thought if it were routine it might help him with insight. What do you all think?

It isn’t worth a battle but I know there is a worksheet to fill out in Complete Sz family guide that might be helpful. I hope you all have a peaceful evening.

A few days before my son went into the hospital, he said one minute that the Invega didn’t do anything, then he said maybe he needed it.

Then, he suggested we keep a calendar of how he feels so he knows.

I’ve been keeping a list of my own, and will continue to do so, but if you can get him to be a part of it, I think that would be very good.

My fiancé? Yeah, he knows I do them. But the last doctor was an asshole, wouldn’t even read them. I’m filing a complaint against him for giving a medication to a patient knowing the patient would use it to harm themselves due to irrational beliefs. Progress Notes are great to have. Thank you and you too!

That’s exactly how I feel about the Klonopin my son was given in the hospital and then had to wean off. He was asking for an Atavan.

What did Klonopin do to him?

It calmed him down. But when he is home he wants it more often than it is prescribed. Some doctors won’t prescribe it any longer because it is addictive. Some doctors use it as a band-aid. How many of you have loved ones on this medicine?

Oh, mine was taking Seroquel with grapefruit juice.

I couldn’t imagine drinking that much grapefruit juice.

And then he wonders why he has gastritis.

I love grapefruit juice - I could drink it all day & not get tired of it.

It would probably give me awful heartburn by the end of the day though.

I don’t like it, but I am allergic to it. I remember last week he grabbed with his hand to tell me something and my arm swelled up in an instant.

Then you should definitely leave it alone.

Just compare it to something you really like then.

I think I read once that grapefruit juice is the only thing that can repair the damage smoke does to your lungs. It’s got some really good stuff in it if you can drink it, but I’m sure it’s one of those things you should have in moderation due to all the acid.

I used to be thirsty water and would drink like a gallon a day, that’s the only thing . I started this new medication 2 days ago and I’m not even drinking that much water, but I’ve been peeing like 15-20 times a day. I didn’t take it tonight, but it’s been causing me to have really painful urination to the point where I am screaming and bending over in the bathroom. Not sure whether to go to the hospital or not. I think I saw some slight pink coloring today in the morning and the last time I went, but I can’t leave him alone. He just got out of a hospital and if I take him with me to another he’s going to be mad.

I think I would stop taking that medication for 24 hours to see if that goes away.

You could also have a bladder infection that’s not related that that at all. If you can get some of the OTC stuff that makes you pee red, it can help the pain until you can go to the dr. I can’t remember if it’s Azo or Uristat or Cystex that does that, but the pharmacist should know.

It’s like peeing iodine or something, but it’s helped me feel better the few times I’ve had a problem until I could get to the dr.

What is that stuff? I’ve never heard of it. Oh. No. Iodine. I’m allergic to iodine.

They sell it in the drugstore - they have some that doesn’t have iodine in it too.
And, I’m not sure if it’s really iodine or not - that’s what it reminds me of.

The people at the pharmacy should be able to recommend something - or tell you if you should stop taking that new med.

I see, okay, thank you so much. I may try that if I can go to a pharmacy tomorrow.
