This happened to my son too. It did not turn out well. I felt so hopeless but didn’t want the cops to intervene as I knew they would not handle a wellness check well. And that is what happened. The cops went to check on him because of a complaint and now he sits in jail waiting to go to the state hospital. Can you ask your son if he would be willing to try the 3 month shot?
Im sorry about your son. Ive been there. Seems we are always holding our breath…hang in there. This site makes me feel we are not alone. She use to drink constantly..got DUI’S…She doesn’t like jail so she quit…i think…a physchiatrist once told me drinking covers up what’s going on in her meds.. she won’t take any advice from me…i worry about her future as we are older but all I do is pray pray pray. I will pray for your son and you. Hang in there. We are not alone in this
What’s going on in her head I meant
I did not know there was a 3 month shot. I will ask for sure. Thank you
I am sorry your son is in jail. I fear that is what is next for my son. I don’t understand why he is going to the state hospital. Is it do the jail sentence or not taking or getting his meds? I do feel so hopeless. It has been a never ending cycle.
It’s the Invega shot. His doctor said - eventually they will come out with an annual one.
He has not been charged and has been redeemed not competent. He got in trouble (resisting arrest) and he is waiting in jail to go to the state hospital where they will keep him until he is competent - “restored”. From what I’ve seen it could take many months to years. Once competent he will have the choice to go to trial or say that he is not guilty by reason of insanity. If he chooses the later he will stay in the state hospital until they think he is able to live in society. I know the frustration you are going through. I had him in a great apartment, on disability and with a housing voucher. All down the tubes. He is a talented writer, however. He is now self isolating in jail and not interacting with others only the minimum amount. My guess is he is in survival mode. He was a pampered middle class kid - not a criminal, just sick : /
The last time my daughter had the police come…she was totally out of it. Making no sense…doing odd things…they took her to jail although told me she was not arrested but on hold till she could get into state hospital. I hated that thought…hospital…mental institution. She was there about two and a half weeks then transferred They let her call and she called all the time. Much much to my surprise she thrived. She was a recluse at home. Married but never went anywhere. They got her into groups…therapy…she loved it. I was shocked. I had bad ideas about state hospitals. this turned out great. she was to follow up when released after 30 days with a dr. and therapist. She has been cancelling appointments. And back to being a recluse…and so it goes on…you are not alone. Seems we all have a story to tell..
Yes, we definitely have a story to tell! Could your daughter attend those group classes as an out patient by any chance? My son was definitely doing odd things and the cop should have approached him as a person with a disability. What happened to the old days when the cops knew everyone on their beat. I think that would certainly help keeping everyone in line. Thanks for reaching out - I appreciate it : )
My son is on the Invega shot, but he takes it monthly. Right now he is not seeing his Dr or therapist, so who knows if he will be rx’d the next shot. He is continuing to drink again. I am so glad this forum is available. You really can’t talk to people who don’t know about this disease and the crazy stuff our loved ones do. I wish there was a controlled living environment for them.
My son decided that he couldn’t take getting one more shot. I paid him to get one more then he went on pills and didn’t take them regularly. He is now, however. I hope you are able to keep your son on the injections. You can certainly tell him that it didn’t work out for my son.
