Help us communicate with our son

Morning. Yep i watched a you tube video on best vitamins and supplements for mental illness and L-theanine was on the list. I ordered Ben three different vitamins and he will not take any of them. I am hopeful that if he stays on his Seroquel that he will eventually take vitamins.

Think it is going to take a few months on this new med to get him out of his delusional thoughts. From what i have read about Seroquel on you tube is that the patient has to be at a high dose between 300 and 800 mg for 8 to 16 weeks before the chemical changes take affect and reduce his delusions which will hopefully bring him back into this reality from his spirit world reality that he currently lives in.

If he is a threat to you or himself, look into the ā€œBakerā€ law.

He is not violent. At least not at this stage in his life. He also stopped taking the seroquel a week and a half maybe two weeks ago. Keeps saying that the VA is pushing big pharma poison. He had an appointment today at the VA to talk to a new psychiatrist. I said to him this morning, Ben you have an appointment today at the VA, he said No, im good. I said no you are not good thats why you have a good job, you live in your own appartment and you have a girl friend oh wait, no you dont. I was pissed so i vented on him. Just tired of his illness blocking the process. The wife and i are just done. We have zero control over anything he thinks, says or does so screw it, if he takes off one day on his own then he takes off. Just so over the worrying and rumminating over how to talk him into taking meds and seeking help.

I hope he stays not violent. My son 29, was not violin when he first went completely off meds in April 2024, think he was taking them intermittently for a while before he completely stopped, He became violent and started stealing the last few months. I had to step back after he went off meds because he was not listening to any advise to get back on track. And it did not end well as of right now, but keeping hope he can get stabilized in jail or maybe he will get sent to hospital. So awful and frustrating to deal with all this. It is out of our control even tho they are not lucid enough to make decisions to help themselves.

Hi Irene, yes it is frustrating. Just that one little thing, medication, keeps them from potentially turning it all around. I just sit back and tell myself im grateful for all that we do have and tell myself that Bens illness is out of our control and try to concentrate on my wife and our dogs.

That is about all we can do, be grateful for the other good things in our lives and try to not be consumed emotionally by these SZ adult children. It seems so easy for them to take their meds, why can t they just realize that! So frustrating that they don t know enough to help themselves.

I am so glad you and your wife have each other. Keep her close and love each other even more.

Ben took off after a fight we had with him back around first week of January. I heard him in his room punching the wall or something. Ran to his room and her started screaming and throwing things. He put two holes in the wall. I told him to leave the house, he walked passed me and pushed me as i was telling my wife to call the sheriffs department. She was on the phone when he walked passed her and tried to push her to the ground. That is when i went after him and told him to get the hell out and dont come back. He left with no jacket, no glasses, no cell phone. He was gone for over three weeks. The tracker in his car showed he was driving all around the Dayton, Cincinnati area then up to northern Ohio and over to Ft Wayne Indiana where he finally called his mom. Guess he purchased a new phone. He called screaming about the police pulled him over for running a red light and they told him his license was suspended from the prior accident he had back in November. He called again at 2am the next morning screaming again about getting pulled over a second time and the cops told him not to drive his car due to the suspended license. So we had to go up to Ft Wayne Indiana to pick him up and drive his car back to Indy. Three hour round trip. He has been home since and we got his license unsuspended. Now he wants to buy a new car…All he does is drive around all day long, doesnt know where he is going, just drives. Sleeps in his car in this frigged temps. I have noticed the past couple years he likes it extremely cold in his room so sleeping in his car wrapped in a blanket he can tolerate i guess. We have a court appearance coming up in a week to have him officially evicted. We told him yesterday we were evicting him. All he did was scream about demons and called us dumb asses and a bunch of other stuff. He is getting more stressed and physical so best to get the eviction done and see how the rest goes. His mom is taking him back to Ft Wayne in March to pay the traffic fines and take a drivers course. Bet that doesnt go well and if he is still around and not driving all over Ohio. If he misses the drivers course they said they would take away his license. He has been in the same sweat pants for at least two weeks. When i mention taking a bath all i get is something about Thor or Oden and or celestial beings. Just no way to talk to him any more. Thank god i started taking my anxiety meds last week!

It about tore me up to evict my own son but it had to be done, twice. I let him come home after a few months and he’s been taking his meds and not doing drugs (the conditions to living at home) since. That was nine years ago. It hasn’t been a picnic all that time, but overall we have been fortunate to live in a peaceful, caring household. I wish you peace, @Refueler1.

So common and sad.
My son was mandated to get a shot once a month. Because he would always go off the pills, because he was not sick or side effects, weight gain, fatigue, mood swings, etc.
If he is suicidal, or a threat to you call the cops.
