We believe our mother may be suffering from schizophrenia. She has been having hallucinations and hears voices and has become more and more withdrawn over the years. How do you convince them to have a mental health evaluation? If there’s a chance of getting her (“her mind”) back with medication, we need to try.

I would not talk about the Diagnosis with her as she will probably get angry . Try and deal with her symptoms , for example if she says she has a lot of bad thoughts on her mind then you can suggest talking with her to see a doctor for anxiety and the rest may fall in place . Many have anosognosia ( no insight ) so it is very difficult to convince them to see a doctor so you would need to learn how to get them to see a doctor . It doesnt always work but dont give up trying as its a challenge .Have you read Dr Amadors book ? im not sick and i dont need help . Great book and i believe it will help you .

Thank you for the advice. Yes, that is our fear, that she will get angry at the suggestion.
