How white blood cells could hold the key to understanding schizophrenia

From the article linked above-
β€œThe research findings suggest that in the future, existing drugs that act on the immune system or reduce inflammation, such as aspirin, might be useful for people with the illness.”

Adjuvant aspirin therapy reduces symptoms of schizophrenia spectrum disorders: results from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Interesting. Her motivation coming from the death of her twin brother diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2008. She also contributed to a study on the impaired antioxidant capacity in the prefrontal cortex of people with schizophrenia.

So many correlations: inflammation - white blood cells - lower antioxidant capacity - alcohol and inflammation - schizophrenia and alcohol. More mention of the cognitive symptoms, though. Wish we could have more breakthroughs on the negative.

Thanks for sharing.
