I take oral Invega (Paliperidone), and don’t feel that it is noticably damaging me. The injection was destructive though. Restless legs and rapid weight gain, and sore breasts. Don’t want to do that again.
My daughter has schizoaffective disorder and was difficult to treat. We had to try several antipsychotics before we found one that worked - several different mood stabilizers too. She is stable now and doing well, but the med changes went on for 3 years. Perhaps a different AP would do better than the ones you have tried? We were advised against cbd oil because even “pure” cbd can contain THC.
5 years ago my DD had her first full blown psychotic episode. She hates and refuses all pharmaceuticals and so we went the natural route. The TrueHope ultra absorbent vitamins helped a lot but were not enough, adding sarcosine and n-acetyl cysteine worked perfectly with the NAC needing just one a day and the sarcosine was 1 or 2 grams a day. Eventually she wanted to stop taking those pills too and I found a homeopathic that gave her a recommendation that worked perfectly. Brands are important and I found that NuAge works great and Hylands doesn’t work at all. The doctor in Dr. K.S. Gopi and you can find him on linkedin. It is worth the $75 that can be sent to him through xoom, a sister company of paypal. He asks for 5000 rupees which is $75. My daughter said it was the only thing that made her feel 100% herself.
I hate to ask and have kinda reserved but I’m going to throw this out. I’m having a hard time understanding ‘psychosis’ . I’m going to assume like everything, it is different for everyone. With my dad she literally will not respond to you unless you talk louder than she does. I feel like I’m yelling as this is not my nature. She doesn’t get any when I yell, it’s just kinda like, " oh, ok, you want me to…" But if I talk in a normal softer voice it’s like she can’t hear me from the speed her head is on. I told my husband it’s like she’s in there but can’t acknowledge she is. She’ll give me these word ques like a head shake it will try to do what I asked, but she blurts out whatever random thing is in her head. Which has NOTHING to do with anything, but to her in sure it does. May I ask, how was psychosis for dd? Was she aware of herself? And thank you so much for the info, I will definitely check that out. It’s so wonderful having people so willing to share. Thank you.
That is DD not dad…I hate spell check
Yes, psychosis is different for everyone. My daughter has done various things. Streaking, knocking on someones door and asking to use their phone and after they let her and she is done and they shut the door she stays there and does it all over again without stopping and the neighbors have to come get me, then call the crisis team and then off to the hospital. Standing in front of someones door all day long, day after day. Calling a special number over 100 times a day to get a blessing bc the voices tell her to do that. She is actually extremely intelligent, but it all goes out the window and she becomes captured into having to do what the voices tell her to do. Reading and writing become impossible and eating just about stops, getting enough fluid becomes an issue as well. Not changing clothes, not showering, walking backwards to collect a thought that dropped from her mind and not being able to watch any tv as it becomes too much to take in. She definitely was aware of herself and even said that she knew how it looked to others and that others just don’t understand her religion an that she shouldn’t have to go to the hospital for a different religion. Yes, she figures out ways to legally stay out, or tried to. Getting the sleep schedule flipped to where she is sleeping during the day and up all night is a big clue and major psychosis was happening for her. staying in dark rooms or even in the closet, putting the covers over her head to keep the light out were other symptoms. There are so many and she was very difficult for a crisis team to evaluate her as she would get a rush of adrenaline of about 4 times what a typical schizophrenic person does when they came to evaluate, which meant that she could act normal for 45 minutes instead of 10-15. They have to see the person in action to take her to the hospital, so evals took a long time and I had to come to the conclusion of what her cycle looked like compared to what they see on an average case.
So, interesting development. I told you I had a friend who sold the Kangen H2o machine. I asked him on Sunday if I could get a few gallons a couple of times a week for about a month to see if it made any difference. He shows up at my house last night with a machine! He said it was his daughters and she wasn’t using it and we could use as long as we needed. I was a bit shocked to say the least but I’ll keep you updated. It’s unfortunate she can’t tell me, oh I feel good today; so I’ll just have to wait and see. Just wanted to share
Awesome! Good luck.
IMO, work your way up to 10+ pH as soon as you can, that gives you the fastest recovery. Don’t go there right away, start with 8.5 pH and raise the pH by half a point each serving to know that she can handle it. Also, be careful not to drink the water earlier than 30 mins before a meal, or 1 hour after. Don’t drink it with a meal! Only neutral water for that.
I’ve been on alkaline water for 2 months, and just recently in the past week started 10.4 pH water. My voices are now totally off! I can’t converse with them even if I wanted to!
Just keep the amount consumed over 2 litres to be sure of benefit. Since your daughter drinks a gallon a day without issue, I don’t think you’ll have trouble with that.
@TheSunshineMaras I mean you’re trying. Bless you!
If you’re into purely psychological benefits like energy healing might offer (it basically makes the ill person will himself better), consider Healthy Mind | SelfHypnosis.com , which is a series of hypnosis tapes you listen to before bed, so that you program your subconscious while you’re in the suggestible theta brainwave state. You can really take a chunk out of the traumatic effects of the illness with this! This is something I’ll try once I’ve exhausted my other options.
I’m having good success with alkaline water though, so I probably won’t end up doing the self-hypnosis.
@Happee, please try different antipsychotics for her. Something will work. Olanzapine’s pretty strongly tranquilizing, so you might have better luck with something like Risperidone. It’s not that expensive either.
@naturallycured psychiatrist said abilify would be the next step in anti psychotics.
If Olanzapine is making her pass out, then a stimulating antipsychotic like Abilify might be what she needs.
@naturallycured I suppose I’m just terrified of a repeat performance. I spoke with my husband about the next step and in his opinion the ‘talking to herself’ is easing. I think I’m so sick over it, it’s just another bleak day. - but that is another story and I don’t want to make this about me. Anyway, husband said, and I agree, we need to ween her down on the CBD before adding the abilify. I know CBD can also be an AP, we know when things are heading south by her agitation and sleep. So far it’s been cut by 200mg and we are holding here for about 4 days to see if her sleep or anxiousness is affected. If not, we plan to drop to around 400mg, hold for a week and start her on half pill of abilify taking it slow and steady. Have you ever used abilify? What can I expect? Psychiatrist said if it was going to do something we’d begin to see small changes within a couple of weeks, if that happens then we tweak dosage. If nothing changes then we go to colanzapine.? Not sure of spelling- but that one kind of terrifies me.
@naturallycured we’ve seen some changes the past couple of days. Like sure doesn’t talk to herself in the middle of the night to go potty. She’s longing for her old schedule (which can’t happen because she’s aged out) but I told her we’re working on a new schedule even though she can’t go back to high school adult services. She also had been asking for food, seconds sometimes. Maybe it’s the amyloban? Niacin? Or a combination? I feel like CBD just kind of takes the edge off. So little gains at her pace.
IMO the Amyloban 3399 is making her feel more normal now.
CBD high dose might do something for her, but I can’t vouch for that. Studies showed you needed like 2 grams minimum, and it’s expensive as sin, so I didn’t bother with it.
Niacin is a mixed bag. It seems to work sometimes but it’s so inconsistent, and you have to take drug-like amounts of it. It has cumulative side effects that I don’t trust anymore. I used to pursue the orthomolecular approach, but that didn’t hold up to testing very well, so I’m all on board the antioxidant-loading approach now. Seems to be working well!
You do have to be careful not to overload on antioxidants since that’s bad too, but if you get them via diet and alkaline water, and not supplements, that won’t happen. Like, don’t overload on Vitamin C, for example, it down-regulates the SOD2 gene, which is your body’s source of natural antioxidants.
I’ve tried Abilify, didn’t have issues with it, but I was only on 10 mg alongside my 9mg Paliperidone. I took it due to some reports that it stopped thought broadcasting, but it didn’t stop mine, so I had my doc stop prescribing it.
Now I’m on Haldol 1-2 mg and Paliperidone 3-6 mg. As of late I’ve only needed 1 mg Haldol and 3 mg Paliperidone, but if I have a really bad day I’ll take 2 and 6 mg.
Oh, if Abilify doesn’t work, you’ll go on Clozapine? Should try Risperidone before that (is cheap without insurance), or the safer version, Paliperidone, if insurance will cover it.
Clozapine is a last resort usually.
@naturallycured yes. The psychiatrist is through MHMR, which is the only psychiatrist who would see her on Medicaid. Unless of course she’s a threat to herself out others then they would hospitalize her, stabilize her and send her home under the care of their psychiatrists. I coming to find out this is a very, very broken system. Her psychiatrist is kind but she wants to medicate, medicate, medicate and was shocked to hear I wasn’t on board. She seemed impressed we were willing to take this on and with the approach we are. She feels strongly that there is something else that caused the sudden onset of Psychosis. But her hands are tied to what she can do diagnostically. B has a follow up appointment with GP Thursday. So, we will just keep pushing and trying to help her, support her, and give her the calmest healing environment possible. Thank you for everything.
You’re welcome! Glad to help.
I’m all for a natural approach to healing schizophrenia, but just know that full recovery without antipsychotics is like 1 in 10000 rare. Relapses are common, and sanity is fragile.
I tried going off meds repeatedly and relapsed 4 out of 4 times. I may be on a low dose for life.
The alkaline water approach is new to me, as I’ve only been on it for 2 months, and it might allow me to lower meds again, but the side effects of a low dose are so slight, and it helps me sleep, so I say why chance it?
Alkaline water machines are useful for schizophrenia because of the low ORP rating in the water; the lower the better. Also because of the microclustering that makes the water more easily absorbed. Not because of the alkalinity!
That isn’t to say blood alkalinity isn’t desired, it’s just that the ideal way of attaining that is by replenishing the alkaline buffer with minerals. Potassium citrate is a favourite for that, since most people are deficient in potassium, and the citrate form doesn’t nullify stomach acids with alkalinity.
You do need a full plethora of alkaline minerals though, that could be bought in a complete form somewhere. Try for low calcium, as supplenting that can cause heart disease. Less than 1 gram a day.
Since too much alkalinity in the stomach is bad, I’ll just use Apple Cider Vinegar pills to drop my gut pH, without wearing out my tooth enamel by drinking it. Probably raises ORP though. Oh well. I can’t live with the arthritis!
I want to do this because my arthritis requires stomach acidity to better digest proteins, so they don’t pass through my leaky gut in a form that causes joint pain.
I don’t know if it was mentioned or not, but the ability for the body to absorb and utilize the treatments we take is an important consideration, whether they’re natural or pharmaceutical. IBS, Sibo and leaky gut are so common now and a good soil based probiotic might help the treatments be more effective.
Yes, I have her on probiotics, we rotate through some ones, next up (tomorrow) soil based strain.
