Older family member with schizophrenia

My uncle, 73, has been diagnosed since 1972. I also get the impression he is developing demtia.

I am his caregiver because a couple of years ago he became no longer able to live by himself.

His base line is all positive symptoms. And I think that has been the case for quite a while. He was not in my life for a long, but afterreading an insane amount of VA notes, it seems he has just always had a set of people he sees and talks

The vast majority are completely harmles, butthere are a few people that when he starts talking about them, I can tell he either experiencing a psychotic episode or soon will.

All of that was to ask, people with elder family members or clients with schizophrenia, have you noticed a mental decline with old age?

My MIL, whose schizophrenia in some ways, was similar to my sons, developed vascular dementia in her 70’s. The dementia changed her personality a good deal. In her case, the paranoia backed off a good deal. She also changed the name she had been called by for 70 years.
