So confusing at times

Your description mirrors my son’s behavior almost completely!

I too am realistic about life expectations for him now.

Last 2 years of my son’s life were spent in the State Psychiatric Hospital.

He’s turning 45 soon and is now in the “step-down” unit about 1-1/2 hr. away.

He told me the meds he takes now have taken away his anger.

He’s been violent/assaultive many, many times. They kept him in the hospital b

because of assaulting an p-M.D. and a staff member.

So, his forties haven’t been exactly better, just different.

The meds have him sounding more like himself, sort of. He sounds very dull, flat, monotone when he talks to me on the 'phone.

And he doesn’t want to see me “like this.” For the first time in 25 years he has some

insight into the psychotic episodes. Anosognosia, little insight into psychosis is

typical.

Do you belong to any mental health organizations? I found Mind in the UK. Seems more progressive than the States in terms of talking about psychosis. Wanted to join but couldn’t make it happen.

Look forward to hearing from you.
