What if mental health first aid were as widespread as CPR? New York City’s planning to do it

Good news - hope it spreads around the world:

I took mental health first aid.

Just imagine learning CPR, but there are ambulances, hospitals, treatments, or doctors for only a tiny percentage of the most acute heart patients. They are sent away from emergency rooms and turned out of hospitals before the health crisis is over. There is no coordinated or ongoing treatment for the life threatening illness. Only a few can afford treatment that might or might not be available. There is a shortage of doctors. There is no place to live during a long recovery etc etc etc

I think mental health first aid is important in many ways, and we also need actual, professional health care and social supports for both emergency and chronic aspects of mental illness.
