I'm new! Need some advice!

i just wanted to know if ambilify helped anyone with schizophenia

Hello jen

I am a welder also. The problem with welding is he is able to pull his hood down and do his work without thinking, leaving him to his mind to tear him apart. Two children, a job that does not pay enough and a world that he has to live in on his own.

Get him on a antidepressant that is what I take and it makes my life so much more bearable.

Powessy

the reason he cant sleep is because of voices.

His pdocs are most likely right. I was just offering a possibility encase he has only been to one pdoc and it sounds like he hasn’t had much success with AP’s so far. Sometimes it takes quite a while to get on the right med at the right dosage. Keep trying though, you’ll find something that works eventually!

youre right… maybe you can talk to him sometime. i find that alot of mental illness is with that profession?

Hello Jen

The occupation is hard and it is full of solitude.

I’m on Abilify 25 mg. It helps with paranoia but not voices. I still hear voices but they are not as threatening. They tell me my meds are poison and that I will die in my sleep though. I use anxiety meds in the evening to fall asleep.

It usually takes about 2-3 weeks when pdoc upped the dose to feel a change in symptoms for me. 30 mg is highest recommended dose in Sweden. She says I need to change meds if I go psychotic again.

I also have 300 mg Quetiapin (Seroquel). Maybe your bf could try it out. It’s very sedating and is also given to those with PTSD aswell. Maybe that could help him with sleep.

Some people get sleeping problems from Abilify. Something to keep in mind.

I think you mean Abilify not ambilify. My husband takes 60mg of Abilify plus 2000mg of amisulpride (Solian). I don’t think that second one is available in the states. His psychosis is under control, and I know of a lot of other people who take it and it works at controlling their psychosis for them. The diagnosis does matter. It sounds like they think your boyfriend is bipolar with psychotic features, because depakote is used as a mood stabilizer in bipolar, and ability is not just used for psychosis, it’s also used for acute manic episodes. Bipolar people and all kinds of other diagnoses get psychotic features, voices, delusions, ect.
In any case, every one is different, and if it’s not working for him, then go to the doctor’s office and put your foot down, insist that what he’s been getting has made no signs of improvement and that something needs to change. Some people react better to some medications than others, you just need to keep trying something works.

Thanks for the feedback everyone

Abilify was the only thing that worked properly for me. When I first went on it, it took about 3 months to sort me out while I was in hospital.

THese are common problems with schizophrenia.

I recommend you watch these videos, and go with the doctor meetings with him if you can so he gets his problems (like sleep) addressed. Frequently anxiety / stress of the delusions cause lack of sleep, which then makes things even worse. ITs a downward spiral. Yes - many people here find Abilify helpful - but your boyfriend may not - there are many medications out there. Work with him and the doctor to find one that works for him.

Here is a list of all the antipsychotic medications. If Abilify is not working for your boyfriend - work with the doctor to find one that does work:

Also - sleep is key, so make sure he gets good sleep. Frequently the antipsychotics are helpful in this.

Anti-anxiety medication may also help. Again - discuss with doctor:
