Long-term assistance care centers?

Hi,

I hope everyone is doing well. I’m doing some long-term planning for my schizophrenic son. After I die, I would like him to go to an assisted-living center/home that administers medication. He is unable to live on his own and forgets to take his meds. I plan on working as long as possible in order to fund a trust I set up for him. So, my hope is that he can live off the modest trust.

Can anyone recommend any homes or care centers in the U.S. where people are very well cared for and thrive, please? Thank you.

Galaga

I’ve looked into this a good bit. It depends on what State you live in and how much money you have. These web sites can help
FindTreatment.gov
https://www.pa211.org/get-help/mental-health/adult-residential-treatment-facilities/

Some facilities take Medicaid, some don’t. The nicer private ones are around $10,000 a month.
Pennsylvania has many choices, Texas has very few. Each State is different depending on how much they fund social services. New York, California, Vermont have some of the most generous programs, while most of the southern States from Texas to Florida have the least.
There are companies that will help you find a place like this one https://carefor.com/
Hope this helps

Hi Galaga,

I think you have made some great posts.

I remember reading that you thought your sons older brother may be able to take care of your son.

I’m curious if something changed that is prompting you to search for long term care facilities?

How much standard cognitive ability does your son have?

I’m just curious if he understands that you’re looking for a facility…if he’d go willingly…I just feel bad for anyone in this situation…

When did your son first have symptoms…can someone have a normal or “quasi normal” conversation with him.

How has his behavior been off medication vs on medication?

does he know he has schizophrenia or at least “issues” ?

Hi Jen1, the flag was resolved and your post remained in place. How are things going with your family member?
