Hello! My name is Allison Coffeen and I am currently writing my master’s thesis at Lund University on relatives of people with schizophrenia. I’m looking to interview people willing to share their experience of living with/caring for a loved one with schizophrenia. The interview would last approximately one hour and we can talk over the phone, facetime, or Skype. Participants would be anonymous. Feel free to contact me if interested!

I respect anyone who is willing to research into this field, schizophrenia is not easily understood or solved. I am curious, what is the reason you chose this subject?

That’s a great question. My mother has schizophrenia so I have always been interested in the subject. The reason I am focusing my study on relatives and their experiences is that I am interested in the strategies and positive traits that are developed from the unique experience of caring for someone with schizophrenia. I feel like the positive sides such as resilience and coping skills that are developed can often be overlooked in research.

Oh, as you know from caring for your mother, yes, resilience and coping skills must be learned by caregivers. It’s like a boxing match, getting knocked down and getting back up and keeping on keeping on. Until one day the crisis is over, and there is some peace.
