The Closure of the Schizophrenia.com Discussion Forums

Thank you for creating this forum. It’s been such a supportive group. I wish everyone the best as you continue to navigate life caring for or living with SZ. Continue to live one day at a time placing your faith and hope in God and don’t let SZ steal your joy.

This forum has always been a source of comfort while navigating thru this horrible SZ disease. I don t know what I will do without it, but life will carry on. I wish resilience to all of us brave heartbroken souls who see our loved ones suffer on a daily basis, or who have no idea where are loved ones are, or who know our loved ones are in jail or homeless suffering. Thanks for opening it and thanks for all the great wisdom and insight I learned from it. My blessing and hope for all who have suffered from this devastating chronic illness. Prayers and hugs…

Although I’m a new member this website has been very helpful for me - the last two months have been very rough for me as my partner had a very bad weed induced episode ( he also struggles with addiction ). He ended up getting lifted by the police and admitted to a mental ward. He was in such a terrible state, me and his family weren’t allowed to visit him for a month. It was so scary, it was horrible waiting for the weeks to go by. He has been discharged weeks ago but he’s suffering from bad side effects on the Clopixol injection. The worst of it is over. I really needed this forum, I appreciate the support and advice I got. wishing everyone a Happy New Year

Thank you for running this for so long @SzAdmin I think this is such an important piece of undocumented social history. I hope the current posts can at least be archived. I would be happy to take over running and the cost of keeping it going if you were willing to let it go to someone else.

Yes, thanks to @SzAdmin for keeping this service running for so long. I’ve been reviewing old posts spanning back before the forum split into diagnosed and caregiver sites over 10 years ago, and chronicling my journey of understanding my illness and attempting to relate that understanding to others. I hope I’ve helped some of you along the way from an inside perspective, or at least gave you a few things to think about.

This forum gave me an outlet for those ideas, and made me feel less alone by giving me a refuge from a world that compelled me to hide who I was and what I’d learned. While I’ll miss it, I’d sensed the dip in traffic that’s precipitating this end. In the last few years, I’d logged in less and less and posted infrequently.

One of my favorite theatre activities has been striking sets. It brings closure and clears the stage for the next show. I’m not sure where or if I’ll setup my soapbox in the future. But such is the uncertain life of a sophist. I’ve been very fortunate to have this venue for so long, and have learned as much here as I’ve taught. So… so long all, and thanks for all the fish.

Saving the archives would be very useful.

You are the best MB, always adding depth and perspective with your advice. We have been so lucky to have you on this forum. A collection of your postings alone would make a book that this world needs.

And as you have hooked me on Jung..

“The world will ask who you are, and if you do not know, the world will tell you”.

Thank you for helping us know who our family members are and thusly, bringing the losses we were mourning, back home to us. Turns out they were there all along, you helped us see them.

You have been a great person showing the other side.

My son has it and when he goes off his meds ends up in hospital. On a new shot and says it is working without the side effects Invega did.

Here is my email mcpheepv@gmail.com

Maybe we can keep in touch.

Thank you, I will try to keep in touch. I’m sensitive to leaking email addresses publicly, so I’d advise anyone else who’d like to share email addresses to please do it by messaging me directly rather than in public channels.

Hope, seeing that quote of Jung’s in itself makes being a member of this forum worthwhile!

A little update for people… we’ve been given a reprieve. We’re going to be up for an undetermined amount of time… the company that hosts the forums (and one specific person at the company who likes the supportive nature of this website) has lowered the price to host the forums to (what appears to be) zero right now. I’m traveling right now so haven’t had time to dig into the implications of this… so updates to follow.

Thank you to SzAdmin and all those who have participated in this Forum. I can’t emphasize enough for families to find a support group such as through NAMI (https://www.nami.org/). Get educated from reliable sources in addition to NAMI such as Treatment Advocacy Center, CURESZ, National Shattering Silence Coalition, Mental Health America. Learn about anosognosia. Read and use crucial communication tools: “I Am Not Sick, I Don’t Need Help! How to Help Someone Accept Treatment” by Dr. Xavier Amador. Many people will find useful, even life-saving, information about the anti-psychotic Clozapine here:(https://www.teamdanielrunningforrecovery.org/book. MEANINGFUL RECOVERY from Schizophrenia and Serious Mental Illness with Clozapine: Hope & Help). And as you take care of yourself, be an avocate for your loved one. See the person first and not the illness. Get involved in organizations that advocate for more and better resources and change to our current systems where change is needed. My best to all of you.

What great news about the reprieve! I didn t realize how much I depend and enjoy this forum until I heard it was closing. It is a lifeline when I can t get support from a group, friend , family member. So relieved and grateful. Thank you.

Well I’m happy to hear this. People need this resource and somebody stepped up and did the right thing. This is the way things are supposed to work.

This website must generate a little revenue. Maybe a long term solution can be worked out.

Thanks to the owner of this website, and the generous company that hosts the forum.
